Swann Gardens

The Swann family in their commercial greenhouse
Location: Sierra Valley, CA
Farmers: Louisa, Jim and Brandon Swann
Contact:   (530) 430-7344, www.veggiesunderglass.com
Crops Grown for High Altitude: Tomatoes

Ever since January 2007 when Louisa was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Jim, Louisa and Brandon Swann have been experimenting with different ways to grow nutritious produce on a year-round basis.  Living in Sierra Valley’s unpredictable environment presented all sorts of challenges, from voracious predation by squirrels and deer to summertime freezes and heavy winds. They finally came up with a solution when Jim put several ideas he’d been working on into practice. Hence Swann Gardens’ Veggies Under Glass™ garden greenhouses were born!

The Swanns practice what they preach, utilizing the greenhouse growing system to provide fresh produce no matter what the weather to a growing clientele, including the High Altitude CSA. Swann Gardens is dedicated to combating the world's food shortage by providing an off-the-grid, in-the-ground greenhouse growing system that insures a high probability of success for beginning as well as established gardeners, empowering people by allowing them to take control of their own health and well being.
